INDIRA UNIVERSE CAMPUS INAUGURATED
BY
UNION AGRICULTURE MINISTER SHARAD PAWAR

October 21, 2007 was auspicious in more ways than one for the Indira Group of Institutes. Dussehra, when Goddess Saraswati is invoked for her munificent blessings, also heralded the joy of moving into the most beautiful and sylvan campus in town – the Indira Universe Campus, at the hands of no less than the architect of modern Maharashtra, Mr Sharad Pawar, Union Minister for Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. Accompanied by Shri Ajit Pawar, Minister for Water Resources, Command Area Development, Water Supply and Sanitation, Government of Maharashtra and Mr Dilip Walse Patil, Minister for Power Resources, Higher and Technical Education and Medical Education, Government of Maharashtra, Shri Pawar threw open the six acre lush green campus that houses three of the Indira Institutes, viz. Indira College of Commerce and Science, Indira College of Pharmacy, and the Indira School of Business Studies and a 200 seat hostel for resident students.   It is a facility with state of the art infrastructure – Projection tvs in each class room, ultra modern hostel for resident scholars, enviable ambience in cafeteria, work out areas in specially designed gyms and landscaped garden etc. enriching the teaching , learning and living experience.

Shri Pawar lauded the role of the Indira Group since its formation in 1993 by Mrs Tarita Wakalkar Mehendale. He reminisced about the young lady who set out with nothing more than a dream and a determination to succeed in dispensing quality education to the students at large. He emphasized the need on the part of those who are in this field for commitment to quality in making a difference to the education scene in India. With foreign players coming into this area, it will require the best among educationists to go the extra mile to be able to create credibility as regards the standard of education, since the students passing out have to shoulder the burden of India's development in the future. He made an impassioned plea to keep education inclusive for the masses and not keep it exclusive for those who can afford the high fees, since there are brilliant children among the poor too.

Shri Dilip Walse Patil, who also spoke on the occasion outlined the emphasis of the Government on quality of education, since extent of education in the farflung areas of the State has been achieved to a great extent. He advised the educationists of the modern era to concentrate on making education relevant to the times, and to include all the sections of society, if necessary by relaxing financial norms for those unable to afford them.

On this occasion, Shri Sharad Pawar also released the autobiography of Mrs Sarita Wakalkar, mother of the Chairperson Mrs Tarita Mehendale and Group Director Indira Group of Institutes, Mr Chetan Wakalkar. The book outlines the travails and the obstacles that the author had to undergo in order to provide the best education to her children and is a proud account of the achievements of her children.
