Volume

The volume level may be set in more than one place - in Windows, in the software you are using, and on the computer's speakers (these may be built-in to the monitor). If using a computer in a classroom, refer to the instructions for that specific room's equipment.

The Windows volume is set by clicking on the grey speaker icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen next to where the clock is found.

Headphones

If plugging-in headphones, connect these to the small green circular socket on the front of the computer case (for black RM computers see the section below), or if not present, to the small green circular socket on the back of the computer case which is normally used for speakers.

Flatscreen Monitor Speakers

The flatscreen monitors have built-in speakers and the volume controls for these speakers are the left/right arrow buttons on the monitor. To mute/un-mute press the up/down buttons. To cancel the menu, press the Menu button.

Sound Sockets on black RM Computers

The front panel headphone and mic ports are disabled by default on the black RM computers. Users can enable these as they wish. (We cannot do this pre-delivery as the preferences are saved per user).

In the Task Tray (the Task Tray is the little section where the clock sits in the bottom right corner of the screen) is a BLUE icon with yellow markings (hover over it and it says Sound Manager). (Note: the same icon can also be found in the Control Panel but is called Sound Effects Manager for some reason).

Click on the icon and it pops up a "Realtek" control panel.

Under the section marked "Front Panel" you will find the sockets are listed as "not connected". Click on the drop-down list for each one and change it-

The normal convention for colour-coded sound sockets is:

PINK = MIC IN
GREEN = HEADPHONES
