What is a Mechanical engineering course?

It is one of the most flexible and diverse engineering courses. In ME, the basics of physics, mathematics, and material science principles are applied to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain systems. Being the oldest and widest of the engineering discipline, it touches every aspect of modern life, including the human body, the most complex machine.

Role of an M.E:

In industries, mechanical engineers research, design, develop, build and test mechanical and thermal devices, including tools, machines, and engines. These engineers design and supervise many products from sewing needles to Rocket and Satellite. They are an integral part of both the government and private sector.

They can also achieve higher positions in government as well as private sector organizations as per their qualifications and field of expertise.

Pay Packet of an M.E:

The average monthly salary of a fresh mechanical engineer is approximately in the range between Rs.15k and Rs.25k. Good campus placements can pick up even better packages for deserving students. As per the skill set possessed expertise area, nature of roles, and responsibilities, the recruiter decides the pay. Well experienced and highly skilled mechanical engineers can easily as high as Rs 40-45 LPA.

International Opportunities:

Foreign countries are always motivating highly qualified professionals from the Mechanical Engineering field. Post-graduates, Ph.D.’s from various IITs, NITs, and private institutes are often offered suitable employment in foreign countries. This does not mean that only highly qualified mechanical engineers get opportunities to work abroad. Engineers who are employed in a multinational company may also get the chance to work on offshore projects.

Career Opportunities:

Industries that offer employment to Mechanical engineers include automobiles, space research, aeronautical, energy and utilities, bio-mechanical industry, Biomedical Industries, refrigeration industries, oil and gas exploration, refining industries, and the agricultural sector. Many mechanical engineers became successful entrepreneurs because of their sound knowledge and skill applied to different projects.

Thus M.E offers a wide bouquet of job options to students who are looking for a stable career.

Mechanical engineers are now focusing their attention on new areas of research such as nanotechnology, biomedical applications, development of composite materials, environmental conservation, etc.

Mechanical engineering placements are unending. Even the severity of the global economic crisis could not knock the demand for these professionals in the global job market.
